i think i will go ahead and get the pinasco for now. i can get the malossi kit locally, but since i have to order the case and crank from .nl anyway, i will try out the more exotic cylinder first.

you bring up a good point with the heat transfer difference. i intend to tune my clutch and variator to keep me in the powerband as long as possible, so i should probably take that into consideration.

is the des kit hard to come by? i like that you can remove the exhaust flange. also, i’ve never worked with a piston ported cylinder, it would be fun to mess with it.

does the dep have better flow than one with the two transfer ports?

why does the dep version not appear to have a transfer on the left side (top side in that pic)? i see the base gasket has a cut out for it, but the cylinder doesn’t have one? weird

is this the standard malossi 80cc kit?

as for the intake (inlet), i will make one of my own. i’ll have to wait until i have everything sitting in front of me to see what i’ll need to do, but i should be able to make it work without too much trouble.

yeah, the malossi case has the carb out back. i’m staying away from the side outlet motors because i like having pedals.

i can tune well, i can also tool the main transfers on the case to match what ever cylinder i use, as i can also tool the cylinder to match the case.

i understand, i’m just worried about them matching up with the malossi case. if the ports in the case were smaller, no problem. i can port a case easy. the cast steel kit, on the other hand, is hard to match to the case. but, i have the tools to do it, so it’s not THAT big of a deal, haha.

is this the pinasco you speak of?
the port mapping doesn’t look all that impressive, not compared to some of the others. and the transfer ports look kind of small.

what is the deps?

is 46mm = 80cc? 43mm = 70cc?

and no matter what kit i run, it will be unique for the states. there are very few tuned vespas, even fewer ciaos, and EVERYONE here runs polini.

it lasted my friend probably a year or so of hard riding, and then it exploded. i’m sure if you check your clutch bell on occasion to make sure there’s no noticeable cracks, you’ll be fine.

he does not have the malossi sprockets.
i was told by an engineering friend that a metal band or two around the clutch housing, something like a hose clamp, would keep things together. the housing will probably still crack eventually, but be less likely to explode everywhere.

he had a friend machine an aluminum band to press around the clutch and it solved the problem

have any of you using the simonini engine and kit had problems with your clutch housing shattering?
my friend had the simonini on his si and after some time the clutch housing on the rear wheel exploded, cutting his leg. anyone else every have this problem?

you guys think he would get 85km with a 13mm carb? that’s awesome. what if he were to go malossi with the engine and have a 19mm on there?
