Thanks I first saw the clutch swap on this forum. I’ve been reading topic on the forum for years. There are not many people interested in the Vespa mopeds in the states, but that’s nice since you can usually pick them up cheap.
The law is written that bikes can go no more than 25mph but it is dangerous riding on the road with cars at that spe…[Lees meer]

I added auxiliary exhaust ports to the dr cylinder on the kinetic

I have a slow leak on my leakdown tester I figured I’d try to run it but it’s getting hot and close to seizing. I need to pull the cylinder back off and braze over the welds to seal it up.

Rode it out to a vintage bike show, as long at it isn’t held wide open throt…[Lees meer]

I have this scooter cylinder,
https://www.scootertuning.ca/en/cylinders-sport-70cc-aluminium/17091-cylinder-kit-athena-80cc-12mm.html
from the pictures of that malossi case it looks like 2 of the stud holes are at a wider pattern than the other 2. But I have a game plan for building that motor, I just received the crank that I need to start on…[Lees meer] -

Since I had the kit off the motor I decided it was time for reed valves. I turned a plug for the intake. Milled a adapter to run a kx65 reed block and a vm24 carb. I have a scooter cylinder I was planning on using when the exhaust port broke off the dr cylinder, but the transfers are huge and there was no way the stock vespa case was going to…[Lees meer]

I built a tube subframe after I found multiple cracks in the kinetic sub frame.

I noticed the belt wasnt traveling all the way up the variator. The clutch shoes were hitting the pulley before it could open all the way. I turned down enough of the pads so the belt could sit at the bottom of the pulley.

Bike is back together running…[Lees meer]

I’m using a cr85 radiator. Mounted to the side of the gas tank

Lc head before the dome for the squish was turned

With this setup I hit 50 mph for the first time on flat through the tunnels

Then the dreaded clutch explosion happened. I made it out with a few cuts and bruises. Don’t rev on the stand!!!

The rear section of the frame…[Lees meer]

Seams welded, top tube added, gussets under the tank added. Filler plated overtop of the slug welded in and grinded smooth.

I scored a set of showa ducati fork legs from a buddy for building a motorcycle exhaust for him. I made custom tripple trees to keep the fork legs close together so they didn’t look out of place on the moped.

Here are…[Lees meer]

The next step was to lengthen the frame and get the frame set up for new forks. I’m 6’4″ I wanted the bike to be comfortable.
Frame cut, new headset cups turned to run a bmx 1 1/8 threadless headset.

Slug welded inside the frame

Here is my kinetic build
I got this kinetic from a coworker for a case of beer (dales pale ale) not running, sitting under his mom’s porch for years. I cleaned the carb and cleaned out the plugged up exhaust and she was running. With a 23 mph top speed it was fun but not nearly fast enough, so the modding begins.

A order to treats I picked up…[Lees meer]

This thread is why I built my ciao I wanted to see if I could hit the 50 mph (80.5 km / h) challenge. I’m a big guy 6’4 ”(1.93 meters) 235 pounds (106.5 kg) I bet someone lighter on the bike could hit that speed no problem.

I drilled from the exhaust port with a small drill bit then came back in with a carbide burr on a dremel to get the auxiliary port height to match the exhaust port.
http://Www.mopedarmy.com is the usual forum I use but its a mix of all mopeds and not just Vespa.

Yeah I cut the exhaust port off the cylinder opened up the exhaust port in the cylinder through the stud and drilled the auxiliary exhaust ports. It hits the power band hard for 50cc. I’ve hit 44mph on this build shooting for 50 mph. I just swapped the transmission gears from 12.25:1 to 11:1 but haven’t got a time to do a top speed run.

Yes it is a 12 mm pin with a bronze bushing rather than a bearing. I haven’t seen a 10mm pin engine in all the bikes I have worked on. Yes I’m on mopedarmy as well, I have been reading the forum here for a while I figured I’d join. All the engines I’ve come across have points engines and have the same heavy flywheel. I think I can get the next one…[Lees meer]

Stock flywheel weight

Flywheel weight after lightening

Cylinder head cut to tighten squish band

Cylinder spaced at the base and decked to open the ports completely at bottom dead center

In the United States mopeds are limited to 25 mph so the manufacturers did mods to keep them at that speed limit. I’ve heard the euro motors didn’t get…[Lees meer]
