Hi there, never heard about a variomatik on a Ciao before, but now i have to put one on mine! (Never been sold in Denmark)
But i need help to get started!
I understand that i have to change my gearbox to one with a longer axel, can i buy a standard vario gearbox on ebay for that purpose?
And then just buy, lets say this vario http://mopshop.de/shop/product_info.php?cat0=441&cat1=496&cat2=1712&cat3=TW90b3J0ZWlsZQ==&products_id=1520&osCsid=0027
Do i need to buy a polini or malossi clucth or can i use the standard vario ciao clutch?
And last, can i start my Ciao by running it as i do now, or do i need to mount a kickstarter?
Hope to hear from you, Hahn

I’m having the variomatik system too on my ciao. you’ll need the gearbox with the longer axel, because that’s the axel where you mount your clutch.
There’s only an original Vespa ( superbravo ) clutch, or an imitation clutch. I think the Imitation one is only sold here in Holland:boos.on your crankshaft your mount the Vario itself. this will lift the V-belt up, so you accelerate a lot faster then Pully. The stock vario sucks ( is my opinion ). i have bought the Malossi one, and it goes like hell!
and the guestion about how to get it started. you can choose both. but i’ll still have to run to start my ciao. it has the same segments as the normal clutch has
.Hope that this little bit information helps a little bit;)
Greetz niek.
1 juli 2009 om 06:20 #145543Hello,
The best thing is to buy an complete variokit from the forum here:
– Gearbox with long axel
– Back clutch
– Front variomatic (standard in the most of the cases)On http://www.jmpb.nl/shop you can buy the most of the variomatic items.
Check: http://www.jmpb.nl/store/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=98
1 juli 2009 om 16:42 #145544Thanks for the fast replies! And you 2 have just confirmed for me what i need to change, that was super!
So now the hunt will start for a stock variomatic system and gearbox – and then another variator.
Thanks!
1 juli 2009 om 20:02 #145545Option:
when you buy a variomatic system you should buy one from this forum with already a polini/malossi front variomatic
it’s a lot cheaper whit shipping 😉1 juli 2009 om 22:11 #145546The standard front clutches are a bit slower than the race front clutches from Malossi and Polini. When I’m not wrong the Malossi clutch is a little bit faster than the one from Polini, but on the other side the Polini clutch accelerate a little bit faster.
It’s also important that you keep in mind that when your complete Variomatic is mounted you have to adjust it to your setup. You can this bij changes the rolls in your front clutch and also by changing the spring in the back clutch. There are different springs which you can mount there.
Maybe when you buy the variomatic on this forum and you are lucky, someone of this forum which is going to Denmark on vacation will take the variomatic with him and deliver it there to an transport company/post office there. I think that would save a lot of money.
Good luck with everything!
