Hi Guys
took my Si for a little test up the road yesterday and noticed that it revved quite a bit without picking up speed, and i could not hear the variomatic changing gear if you like, what could this depend on please anyone have any idea’s.
I have the yellow malossi tension spring, with yello malossi clutch springs fitted, the malossi toothed belt is right on the level of the pulleys maybe 1mm out and the belt seems to have worn quite a bit already and has some fraying on the sides.
also tried pushing the variomatic inwards with my hands but doesn’t seem to move, unless it supposed to be like that i’m not sure.
just like to add that all parts are brand new not used.
many thanks
giuseppe9 maart 2011 om 10:44 #148105What kind of gramm rolls do you have? the belt is fitted well, it has to be ~1MM above the rear discs. You can manually press the rear-discs? (to exclude the clutch + the tension spring).
if not, the problem lies within the clutch, and not the variator itself. Let us know. The variator at the front could only be moved if the belt isn’t fitted. Or you should be REALLY strong to move the pulley + variator-housing.
9 maart 2011 om 10:45 #148106A variomatic does nto change gears, because there is just 1. Could you maybe make a short movie of the problem? It could be that your rear clutch is not working right, so the rear pullies don’t open up to move the belt down so the front variomatic could “gearup”
I hope you understand my bad englisch 😛
9 maart 2011 om 10:48 #148107i think he means the clutch doesn’t vary. maybe he fitted very light variator-rolls and in combination with the yellow tension spring, it doesn’t “gear-up”. But this is unlikely, looking at his setup (RV, 46Pina Black)
9 maart 2011 om 10:50 #148108hello guys
the rollers i have are 5.1g fitted until i run it in – do you guys think 5.1g are light then ?
oh excuse me guys i thought the vario housing could be moved by hand but obviously not then, yes the belt is sitting 1mm above the disks so that seems to be fitted correctly even though worn somewhat already.
if i prise the rear disks with a screw driver they move freely, maybe it’s me worrying about nothing but it just seems to be revvy and feeling like it isn’t going much.
when i accelerate on the stand i can’t notice that the rear disks open up, are you supposed to be able to see this quile revving?
you will have to excuse me but it’s the first time i have a vario so not sure how it supposed to behave.sorry i wish i had a camera to film it but i haven’t got one available.
thanks guys.
9 maart 2011 om 11:08 #148109Yes, you should be able to see the vario variation very clearly. It should look like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeDCbnW06Lc
Try some havier rollers.9 maart 2011 om 11:13 #148110thank you for the link my friend as mine definitely doesn’t do that.
i will check the vario again to see that all is well with it.
on what throttle opening would they open like that, i don’t want to go made on the accelerator as i have to run it in you see.
many thanks
Giuseppe9 maart 2011 om 11:18 #148111it should be variating when the variator itself moves.
Check the following:

the disk where the yellow tension spring is mounted. Check if the bronze bus has a little bit of clearance. just place your hands between the disks, and check if you can move the rear disk. If so (and when you can move it A LOT) you should buy new ones.
Tonight a fresh pic, im at my work at the moment, so can’t shoot 1 for clarification.
9 maart 2011 om 11:22 #148112ok no problem.
if it variates when the variator moves then i best check that first.
do i need to move the disk with the belt in place or without it.
thanks again
Giuseppe9 maart 2011 om 11:29 #148113doesn’t matter. without is easier. when im checking it, i make sure the disks are “variated” so i can put my hands better between them.
9 maart 2011 om 11:30 #148114ok while i have the vario off tonight i will check the disks also.
i don’t think my rollers are light do you ?
Giuseppe9 maart 2011 om 11:33 #148115you don’t have to change your rolls because it has worked always well before!
Even if this isn’t, it should variate! The Roller weight isn’t the problem probably
I thought this is a multiple problem with the Malossi Multivar.. Some time ago there were several reports of this problem .. The vario doesn’t variates.. He isn’t doing what it should be doing!Members like Edjuh, and ArvidW will know what i’m talking about 😉
9 maart 2011 om 11:39 #148116the rollers aren’t too light, no. especially with your exhaust in mind. @tnerual, that was the problem that it didn’t variate back right? it was stuck in “high-gear”? or am i mistaken? it did vary, but didn’t revert back to it’s original position.
9 maart 2011 om 11:39 #148117Tnerual
i think you are correct in what you are saying, i heard some problems with the multivar wish i got the polini now.
i will take it off tonight just to check it’s installed properly and sliding well and if it still doesn’t variate i will speak to the shop i bought it from.
mine tends to stay in high gear will find out tonight.
thanks for all your help guys for opening my eyes.

I more think that the varioator itself is just stuck in normal position.. ( as you start riding, if you want)
@GIuseppe
Glad you understand what i’m talking about 😉 Indeed, you will be and STAY out of troubles like these with a Polini Speedcontrol 😉
Good luck!
But , i think you can solve this problem.. I thought you had to shorten the gliding bus.. But i’m not quite shure, ..
Curious to wait an expert from here on the forum his mind 😀
