Daily driver engine is almost finnished, eager to test it and see IF it perform!
Polini have really shitty castings nowadays, sad to see 🙁
6 juni 2019 om 06:42 #787379Their casing is indeed in really bad shape nowadays 👿

Gele Racefrikandel6 juni 2019 om 14:52 #787401I tried installing the Gianelli original power, but it touches the gear for the pedals. I think it’s because I have 80mm polie, and the engine should be more in front.
Should the be a distance ring/shim ring on the rear exhaust mount?
6 juni 2019 om 19:06 #787411Installed the Original uitlaat instead, had to put some shim-rings in the rear here too, and take a bit longer screw. And then I fired it up and went out for a 7km tour, it performed quite good but it lacks the bottom end power. I hope that the Gianelli exhaust will give a bit more bottom end torque.
I think the original exhaust didn’t really let the engine to breathe good in the tops (it’s old, rusty and original) however I didn’t hold wide open throttle to really test out the top performance. Also noticed that the rear brakes didn’t do good at all, So next step for this daily is to overhaul the brakes.
I read ferrodo are nice, but seems tricky to order from Italy.. How are the Polini ones? Are they the same as Newfren but different name?
Are the 5-spaaks 90 or 105mm for the front brakes?Setup:
Polini SE
Bromkruk
SHA 13/13
Polini airfilter + extra 3 pcs 6mm holes
Sproier 66
B7 sparkplug
Yellow Malossi springs for front clutch
80mm polie
Installed the Citypower exhaust now, and it pulls alot better now.. Used “Speedometer GPS” APP and it recorded 68,25km/h… I Think the engine would benefit from a lighter flywheel.
The spark have some white spots, I think a 68 sproier would be needed.
9 juni 2019 om 09:25 #787484Personally i think this color is good as it is. Higher would only cause more fat/grease on the sparkplug and will start to disfunction.

Gele Racefrikandel17 juni 2019 om 19:02 #787732Did a small “service” on the daily today.
The brake light switch was broken, found a new one on JMPB, not listed for Ciao, but for Tomos.. But it was the exact same one as original, so I’m happy. 🙂Also replaced the brake handles, the old ones were rusty..
I tested with a 68 JET today, it felt a little bit stronger on bottom end, but wasn’t really willing to rev out the same way as 66 on top end.. Is my bottom end experience only imagination? I’m more used to tune carbs with L and H Jets. 😀

17 juni 2019 om 22:34 #787749Nice work man!
I love your perso!
The CNC carter you’re making is just amazing, keep up the good work!18 juni 2019 om 13:18 #787768If you think 66 is a bit too lean, and 68 is on the rich side.. why not try 67? Or remove a layer (or two) of the metal gauze in the air filter (if you have any).
20 juni 2019 om 21:24 #787864Didn’t know 67 even existed, thought it was only even numbers.. Have to check that out!
However, in my opinion the engine runs a bit rough, sound of meetal.ticking that one would expect with a expansion uitlaat, with the citypower, also a little bit nervous on the idle.. What do you guys think?
Also I have leakage, probably that’s why I’m experiencing this.
I’m using Polini SE original aluminium gasket, I think a paper gasket would be a better option.
Also, I think the uitlaat is leaking a bit, would need to fix that aswell.I’m not using any gasket between cylinder and kop.

20 juni 2019 om 22:26 #787872You can use exhaust paste for your exhaust. this becomes hard and expands a bit when the outlet warms up and seals very well.
https://www.estateservices.nl/uitlaatpasta-tube-190-gram.htmlI always use paper as a base gasket.
I have almost the identical setup and I have a 62 jet.
20 juni 2019 om 22:56 #787876Yeah, I’ve thought about paste aswell! Will need to get some 🙂
Do you cut your own gasket? Which paper do you use? To many thicknesses to choose from at JMPB 😀
Wow 62, that was quite low? Sproier database says high 64-68 with 13mm inlaat, well I have SE-carter that would be similar I guess. Perhaps I should try 64 and B8HS and see how it acts. I’m afraid of “loopt varm” (you know, when cylinder goes bad).
43 mm (70 cc) / 13/13 / Citypower / Malossi / Polini / 13 mm inlaat / Brom / Race / 64 – 68.Another thing is, it’s easier to start without choke, I need to give it 4-5 kicks on the pedal. If it’s warm, it starts on the first kick.
20 juni 2019 om 23:45 #787881I shouldn’t worry about the sound beeing a bit metal ticking like. This is typically the Giannelli Original exhaust. With another type of exhaust this will be less. As for the base gasket I will always use my own paper ones. 0.5 thickness. Most of the base gaskets are of a thickness of 0,4 by the way. Jetting will be different for any kind of setup even with the same parts the perfect jet can be different. But in my experience with a 66~68 you’ll be spot on.
20 juni 2019 om 23:52 #787882Alright, I measured original DR paper gasket to 0,3mm.. Perhaps going for a thicker 0,5 and adjust the squish by grinding the top is the way to go. Are the thinner gaskets prone to break, hence 0,5mm?
Is anyone using gasket for cylinder head?
Do you guys prefer the blue or yellow gasket from JMPB?
27 juni 2019 om 21:49 #788101A couple of Pinasco stuff have arrived, will rebuild the fork with brass bushings and front wheel bearings.
Also arrived a 11,5 vario, installes malossi black clutch-springs in it and the yellow pressure spring.About the Minarelli-Carter, there have been some progress with repairing the mill.. I estimate we can test the mill to see if vibrations are gone in 2 weeks.. Hopefully after that we will marathon-mill the rest of the carter. 🙂
