Hello Wim, Thank you.
Do you use it? Do you know if this belt will work on Multivar? There are several belts on the market 13×950-965 but I will really appreciate some already tested recommendation of belt.
Also SIP has some belt https://www.sip-scootershop.com/cs/product/remen-pro-pohon-vario_92380000?q=Pohon
There is Polini belt for vario 965×12,3mm 32°
And also some new MCBELT https://www.scooter-center.com/en/v-belt-mc-belt-955-piaggio-ciao-converter-v-belt-mc0955?number=MC0955
Or industrial belt 13mm GATES 6468MCThere are so many choices.
Multivar is often used variaotar so there must be users with experiences.12 september 2023 om 13:32 #821709No, I don’t have vario.
Ask JMPB by mail.Gr. Wim.
Een oude brommer is alleen leuk als sleutelen uw hobby is.12 september 2023 om 19:25 #821713I have used several drive belts over the years, never liked the Malossi belts. Wear out quickly.
My favorites are Gates 6468 (950 mm for 90 mm clutch) and Gates 6469 (975 mm for 100 mm clutch). Always with Malossi Multivar.
Some drive belts I have used for many years and still work fine. Malossi only lasted for a few weeks. Also, you can pick up one from Gates at any car parts supplier, so no need to order online.13 september 2023 om 08:32 #821717Hi FonS
Thank you for your experiences and recommendation. It is very useful for me, I will test Gates drive belt. I have one question for you regarding the Multivar – are you using Multivar with original buslength or have you shortened it?13 september 2023 om 09:47 #821719I use the Multivar as it is, no modifications.
14 september 2023 om 22:13 #821732I have a very similar problem with a SI vario that I purchased recently (previous owner had a hard time get it started as well, but until now I had no luck at all).
Only difference with me is that it’s just a 50cc and I think it is an original piaggio vario. The engine spins when I use decompression, but from the moment I release the decompression lever the engine just stops spinning (but the rear wheel doesn’t block). So it seems that the clutch at the rear disengages or that the belt slips.
The rear vario makes a loud ticking noise when the clutch / starting shoes engages, but after that the engine turns over, what could that mean?16 september 2023 om 07:34 #821750Hello
You can try what I did.
First take off side panel and easy see what is going on.
You can see if slips drive belt or start shoes. Push the pedal and check if you feel fricton and resistence of the start shoes. If ou feel friction, bell turns but clutch not there is problem with start shoes. Or you can see that clutch turns but drive belt slips on clutch or variator.Than you can try basic service of drivetrain.
Take clutch bell out of the clutch and start shoes out of the bell. Check rubbers on start shoes, if neccesery degrease them and brush with sand paper. Degrease well also oposite part on clutch body.
Take of drive belt and check its condition, mabey easiest is to replace drive belt with the new one. Check pulleys on clutch and variator, its surface and degrease them. Mount it all back and set drive belt tension. Test it again.27 september 2023 om 08:50 #821886Hi all.
Thanks for all the recommendations and advice. I have already solved everything and can confirm that the 80cc engine with compression can be spinned with start shoes in rear clutch.
Maybey somebady will have same issue so here are reulsts of my tests.
In my case it wast two parts.
First slipped start shoes, than slipped drive belt on Malossi Multivar. In my case start shoes slipping was all about rubber compound. New start shoes Malossi and Ferodo with soft rubber which should improve friction and makes starts eaisier both slipped. So I tested very old original start shoes with very hard rubber and it worked. So I bought brand new original Piaggio start shoes. Rubber is harder than Malossi and Ferodo and they works best without slipping.
Drive belt slipping on Malossi Multivar is about buslenght (there are meny other topics about this issue). I did not modified buslenght, but tested several AVX13 driven belt commonly used in cars and try to find the widest one.
Recommended GATES 6468MC slipped in my case. BOSCH 1 987 947 503 was littel bit better. The best one in my case is MEYLE 052 013 0950. This driven belt is not slipping on my Multivar.
