I have ordered the new simonini engine with the 4 taps and heard somewhere that its an am6 standard for the cylinder? What does that mean? Is it possible to get some am6 cylinders on that engine or what? Someone here maybe have done some test with diffrent cylinders? maybe its just bullshit but ill just wanted to know?
21 februari 2016 om 20:45 #148352No, not entirely true. It’s made for their air cooled Simonini cylinder, but with a little work an AM6 or Minarelli horizontal cylinder wil fit.
– To get the cylinders shoved in these cases you first need to bore the 4 holes from the cylinder a little wider. They are 7mm now and need to be 8mm.
– Don’t forget you need a right stroke crank for each particulary cylinder. You need almost always cut down the heigth of the cylinder on a lathe aswell.
– Choose between air or liquid cooled cylinders. With the AM6 cylinder you have some trouble closing one of the channels for liquid cooling. So it’s easier to make a Minarelli horizontal cylinder fit. Here you see both cylinders

-on top 47,6mm Simonini 44mm stroke for Minarelli horizontal engines
-below 50mm Simonini 46mm stroke for Minarelli AM617 april 2016 om 16:05 #148370Now i got a yamaha neos horisontal engine cylinder from a friend and drilled the holes on the cylinder to 8,5mm and now the cylinder matches perfect on the simonini engine. Now all i need is to order a nice 70cc kit and make some progress. but why do i need the horisontal version of the minarelli and not the standing ones? Whats the diffrence?
17 april 2016 om 18:46 #148371The length of the cylinderstuds is different between the horizontal and vertical ones. Also the vertical cylinders have the intake directly on the cylinder as with an horizontal cylinder the intake is on the carter. Keep in mind there is also a difference in strokes when searching for the right cylinder and you still need to mill it down.
17 april 2016 om 19:33 #148372The milling is no problem. Ill do it on work. But if you would make a plate for the original simonini intake and close it then you can buy a standing cylinder with the intake in the cilinder but that maybe isnt no good. Just checking some alternatives. Ill thint the stroke on the neos cylinders are 39,3 or something like that. just have to do some tests.
18 april 2016 om 00:45 #148373Offcourse anything is possible, but any vertical cylinder you can find is out there in a horizontal version, so leave the hassle of closing down the intake and search for a horizontal cylinder directly.
18 april 2016 om 11:15 #148368Yes ill buy an horizontal cylinder. Sorry ill dont know how to upload pictures here then ill show how it looks now.
