Hello everyone. Last year I was given a Vespa Ciao PX. I dont know how old it is but there is a little badge on it that says 1981 so that could be the age.
Anyway. When I got it I emptied the petrol tank and put new fuel in it. But it would not start. I then put a new spark plug in it and it still would not start. I took the carb apart to see if there were any blockages but there weren’t any. I’ve tested to see if it makes a spark when you pedal and it makes a very good spark. So I cant think of what the problem might me.
Do you guys have any ideas whats wrong with it as I would love to use my Ciao!
Thanks.
Doug.6 april 2009 om 10:10 #1451941. is the spark wet after you try to start it?
2. did you check if your engine builds enough compression? check if there is a place where feul leeks out of the engine
you could try to take the engine apart and build it up again. when the engine stand still for am long time, the
“pakking” between the parts dries up and starts leaking after a while.good luck

6 april 2009 om 11:49 #145196you need to be sure there isn’t old feul in your engine. Try to run a couple blocks around your home, without a sparkplug. So the engine cleans itself. While your running you see the feul coming out of your cylinder head, that is a good sign.
Now put your cleaned sparkplug back in and try again.
probable there is some old feul in your engine, old feul evaporate and the oil stay behind.
7 april 2009 om 17:02 #145197Ok. There is no old fuel in the engine. I have drained the tank and the engine and put in new fuel. The spark plug is getting wet and makes a good spark but doesnt start. It has been broken for about 4 years and hasnt been driven on public roads since 2001-2002. Perhaps it will be easier to fit a new engine than fix this one?
7 april 2009 om 19:53 #145198yes if you want to pay 250euros…. try heating youre cillinderhead and sparkplug with a burner (blue noisy flame).
De budget beun tjoener: geen geld is te duur of het werkt nog niet

The shipping costs to the UK aren’t that expensive are they?
Maybe you can even get an other engine in the UK if it fails to fix this one.8 april 2009 om 19:25 #145200Shipping to the U.K. cost’s about £20.00 from Holland, I’m always getting parts sent over fron J.M.P.B. the only problem is a bank transfer for payment cost’s £20.00 as well! Hi DougN, from Martin in Stowmarket, Suffolk.

Hi DougN, from Martin in Stowmarket, Suffolk. Then you are at the wrong bank! European transfers are FREE! Iam at ABN AMRO and i have never paid for any transaction to foreign countrys (like Germany, even to switserland which is not EU)
Charging 20 pounds for an transaction to a fellow EU country is getting stabbed in back 😐
14 april 2009 om 19:02 #145206We get stung big time over here, £20.00 was the cheapest trasfer I could find at any bank,
I could only do transfers inside the U.K. for free.
I’ll see what the ferry to Holland costs, come and get my parts in person!15 april 2009 om 17:28 #145208have you tried to spray Start Pilot into your carb?
15 april 2009 om 20:52 #145209are all the gaskets in a good state? just take the cilinder off, and try new gaskets. the dry out and start leaking after a while when the engine isn’t running
