Hi Jelle, I have heard from two different people that Toyota parts could be used, but I do not know any details. 😕
I bought my Fox/Vespa axle here on the forum. Hope this axle will work for a while.
Just upfront I’m planning to fix a new needle bearing and one or two additional 4mm ball bearings for more reinforcement into the gear box lid.1 januari 2014 om 16:41 #282894short update with scooter vario

1 januari 2014 om 17:12 #282895Very, very nice piet

Whats the topspeed?1 januari 2014 om 19:20 #282896Looking forward to see this happen!
I recently saw it is possible to put a slightly larger needle bearing in the gearing cover at the clutchshaft location.
The bearing is available and there’s enough material. You could have a look at this, as the original one may wear fast…1 januari 2014 om 19:41 #276959SpeedyVespa, still need to adjust the carb. for the first drive.
TJOEP, yes, there is space. in the cover for maybe two additional ball bearings.
Already got gaskets, two original size needle bearings for cover and box and the two additional ball bearings. 😉

longer fox axle received and fixed.

now the drive belt runs inline from clutch to variator

as now the 13mm width drive belt is sitting too deep between the complete closed discs. Tomorrow will order a 15mm width drive belt.

after that, all is ready now for the next drive trial. Hope that the clutch will open with wrong turn direction from our gear box rotation.
4 februari 2014 om 19:08 #282924Nice work piet
I hope the clutch wil work eighter.
4 februari 2014 om 23:39 #282925Looking AWSOME!!! 😉
I’m really curious how fast this beast is gonna be.
Great project

Lightlord's Dizzy/Gypsi5 februari 2014 om 19:32 #282927The clutch will work for sure, however probably not on the RPM you want it to engage (too high)
You have to take care that the varistor does NOT start to variate before the clutch engages, if that happens the clutch springs are too stiff or the centrifugal weights too light. You will be able to drive off in such a case however it will be in a relatively high “gear”. For maximum acceleration the clutch should engage at a slightly lower RPM than the variator tries to regulate. Clutch engagement should happen at max engine torque, variator should maintain max engine power.
It easy to test if the clutch springs are way to stiff, apply the brake, open the throttle and watch for axial movement of the rear pulley.
Cool project btw, I like the fact that Bartjes frame is re-used for another awesome project.

Home made engine dyno6 februari 2014 om 18:57 #276818Arvid, thanks for the instructions, will try comming weekend if there is no rain.

ktmgek, lightlord, yes, I’m also anxious to know if this thing will actually drive :lol
But now I have a little problem to get the right drive belt.
I have checked many many shops for a drive belt with width between 14 and 16mm and a length of about 990mm.Does somebody has a good adress where I can get such a belt??
6 februari 2014 om 19:19 #282909i most of the time go to a car pars shop to get my belts
have you tried that already?6 februari 2014 om 20:47 #276566I was actually watching for the available dimensions as well.
And found out that the brands Gates and Optibelt are common in the Netherlands.
Most car parts shops can order them indeed.Optibelt Super TX will help you out: http://www.optibelt.com/fileadmin/produkte/keilriemen/pdf/GB/SUPER-TX_Sortiment_GB.pdf It is available in both 15 and 17mm (Minarelli)
Here is the entire product overview of Optibelt (in German): http://www.industrialproducts.be/nl/files/03-vormvertanden-v-riemen-xpz-xpa-xpb-xpc.pdf
And here the entire overview of Gates (in Dutch): http://www.gates.com/dutch/downloads/download_common.cfm?file=20054_E5_INDUSTRIAL_BELT_CATALOGUE3.pdf&folder=brochure&location_id=17257
Good luck!
6 februari 2014 om 21:07 #276392yellowcitta, yes, they end at 13mm and then start again at 17mm. Nothing between 13mm and 17mm. 😕
TJOEP, thanks, Optibelt look like an option, will check that.
9 februari 2014 om 15:30 #268280today first drive test. Still with 13mm drive belt but 130 main jet.
9 februari 2014 om 15:54 #268279the beast is alive! damn that exhaust looks crazy =).
i’m a big fan of this project. gas response sounds perfect with the hpi ignition, instant high rpm!for an odd sized drive belt you should check out some carparts specialist stores. they usually have a wide variety of drive belt sizes.
