jau, some weeks ago I got this old Ciao A without a spring fork.:D
The wheels are 19″ and everything was complete. Only the engine was missing.
The bad thing is that it is repainted by hand, that looks very ugly:boos
Here some first pics

I think that I already found the right old engine and a very old vario and vario gear box with 12,5:1 ratio.

The gear box is the very old version for the 19″ wheels what has a different drive shaft and M8 fixing screws;)

Also found some old side covers

and a brand new head lamp and tool box=)

Today I started to disassemble the bike and saw some not very nice bumps in the rear fender and baggagedrager

Now I try to remove the hand painted color to get the original color back. First try on the backside of the baggagedrager

and the black painted handlebar
4 januari 2010 om 18:47 #275993😮 I love it!!
Too bad you don’t have variomatic side covers…
The variomatic is the right model for your oldtimer. That engine might be okay, but the cylinder isn’t 60’s material.
Perhaps the cylinder has been changed, or the engine just isn’t old enough for your ride. This is what a real oldtimer cylinder should look like:

4 januari 2010 om 18:49 #275994Wow! That’s an old thing:o. Wahah now make this bike back to original state.:)
4 januari 2010 om 18:52 #275995FonS, you are right. I will just go and check;)
4 januari 2010 om 18:57 #275996Here are more pictures of my 19 inch Ciao’s engine: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=NMGHXVG8
One more detail: the fuel tap seems non-original, my Ciao has a very simpel one with just a knob, it’s either open or closed (no reserve).
Nevertheless, I absolutely adore your new Ciao :worshippy
4 januari 2010 om 19:05 #275997so, just checked the engine and it is a newer model Moped engine with 11,5mm inlet.
The minus clamp is screwed with one of the blok screws and the Aluminium casting has a rough structure.

But I found a right version one in my fundus:D
This engine is also a Moped engine and has the minus clip riveted to the blok. Also the Aluminium structure is not rough like on the new model one.

and will check the fuel tab now also:'(
4 januari 2010 om 20:05 #275999über nice, where did you find the vario gear box for the 19″ wheels????
I love it and I want it toooo…4 januari 2010 om 20:36 #276000NICE=) to bad that the original engine is missing. how many vespa’s do you own by now?:P
4 januari 2010 om 20:38 #276001Super ciao.
Man the amount of projects that you actually work on!
I also see a nice old bravo, do you happen to have a spare benzinhahn?(pm)
4 januari 2010 om 20:55 #276003Very nice, one of the first that was ever built

What will it’s new colour be?4 januari 2010 om 21:23 #276002Affengeil indeed! 😀
Any clue on its framenummer? it could be e real LOW one…!
This model is a true example of a good old german saying:
in der Beschränkung zeigt sich der Meister… :!
and God were these Italians Master of design!
A link in the oldtimerforum would be great too! 😉4 januari 2010 om 23:06 #275880Piet is the german “jay leno” but with mopeds 😀
5 januari 2010 om 16:36 #275985Very nice Piet!=)
This is exactly the same model wat I have had.
But i sold it a few years ago, stuppid me!:(
Succes with the project
5 januari 2010 om 17:33 #276009wow, so many mensen here who like old Ciaos, fantastic

after I was lucky to eliminate the black color on the handlebar there was a red color under the black:boos

Put more Grafitti remover on, and schwups it looks like real handlebar;)

The chrome is a little corroded but better than painted I think.
Jelle, I got this complete vario set incl. engine, carb and Moped exhaust in EBAY for 160,-Eu’s
Docs, there are 7 running Ciao, all have different setups. One running Tiffany and three ongoing projects.
Loek, if possible I like to keep the original color below the hand painting. That’s why I try to remove the hand painted color with Grafitti remover. But after a try to remove the top color I can see a darker green color and a red color below. Now I do not know what the original color was. Red or dark green. If I can not keep and restore the ori color I have to paint it complete new. No idea what color I should take. But should be one of the original Vespa colors from that time periode.
Miniciao, the frame number is: IGM 5321CM M9N1T*0105004* Does that say something to you? Maybe build year or original color? Ja,manchmal ist weniger mehr:D
What Oldtimer Forum do you mean?Hans, you can call me Piet Leno :lol
G-no, Dein Deutsch ist besser als meins. Aber der untere Motor ist der älteste den ich habe, der ist aus einer Ciao von 1970 mit 19″ Rädern. Was älteres habe ich leider nicht.
VespaAvanti, you should not have sold the old Ciao, bad, bad, bad man
