      Hello Everyone.

First of all I would like to say that these website and forum are very interesting! Learning a lot!

I am interested in buying an used Vespa Ciao and have some questions that kindly ask you:

      – As a foreigner stdying in the Netherlands till December, can I legally have one?
      – How can I transfer de documents to my name (is it needed?)
      – Do I need to wear an helmet?
      – Can I use the bicycle routes?

And… Does anyone know any interesting deal for a Vespa Ciao around Schagen/Alkmaar??

      Thank you for your attention!!

      Best regards,

      Pedro (pedro.almeida.silva@gmail.com)

I have a driver’s license A and B, so no problems. And if documents are easily transfered on any postoffice… excellent!!

Now I just have to look for MY future Ciao… do you know a good deal?

            hmm not at this moment.

you should check http://www.marktplaats.nl and fill in “vespa ciao” and above you can seach by zip-code so you can see how far away the vespa from the advertisement is:)

Make sure it has a ‘kenteken’, which is the new dutch registration, otherwise it can’t be insured.

You cannot go on the bycicle paths unless you have a 25km model or the sign is this one:
With the 45km model you take these roads or you go on the main road.

Is ti necessary for all the Vespa Ciao to have an insurance?

If mandatory, can anyone tell me the insurance price?

                Thank you!

it is very important to have a insurance, because when you get caught by police your getting a €230,- ticket or above..
most insurancys cost around 5 euro’s per month..

Without insurrance you get a big fine, which is 260 euro =)
The insurrance for half a year is about 30-40 euro’s so its nothing!

Just try to find some ciaos on markplaats and post them here, we can say if its a good deal yes or no.

Funny stuff, for the time being you want a ciao here in holland :thumb

                      Nederlands
Je moet toch ook naar de gemeente gaan voor een bevolkingsregister (papiertje dat €15 kost) om de vespa op jou naam te zetten ??

                      English
You do need to have a population register (a piece of paper that costs €15) from the commune to register the vespa to you ??

                      43mm cilinder = 4.3×((0.25×π)×4.3^(2)) = 62,45cc

Die heb je alleen nodig als je alleen een bromfietscertificaat hebt als je een autorijbewijs hebt kan je deze zonder uittreksel uit het persoonsregister gebruiken om de bromfiets op je naam te zetten.

You only need a “population register” if you haven’t got a drivers licence. If you’ve got a car driverslicence you can use this to put your name on the papers of the verhikel.

Thank you all for this helpful information…

I own 2 Vespas here in portugal, one 50s and another GTS250… Both of them take me everywhere (the GTS is my daily mean of transportation and the 50s e for small journeys).

                          When you ask:

I must say that it looks like to be a very interesting way to get everywhere I need there in Netherlands. I’ve been there before (including last week) and, in spite of good public transportation with the train (ns) and bus, there’s nothing like the freedom of two wheels… with engine!

I just need to figure out this questions to be legal (registration possibility for foreigners and insurrance) and when I return there, next monday, I’ll get a twowheelers for sure! Worst case scenario: a good fietsen!!

                          Thanks…

When you need any help translating dutch to english post it here.

Also i would defenitly choose a ciao with electronic ignition instead of a ciao with oldschool contact ignition.
With electronic ignition you have barely any maintenance (keeping the spark alive and you dont have buy a new ignition)
But with contact ignition you can get allot more problems.

                            Contact ignition typical looks:
                            – Rubber at the flywheel
                            – Small cable going out of the engine
                            – Bobine

                            Electronic ignition typical looks:
                            – No rubber at the flywheel
                            – Bigger cable going out of the engine
                            – Cdi

                            Keep us informed 😉

Tipically, a Vespa Ciao also needs to go to services quite often? Like the regular Vespas to check oil levels, filters, brakes, and so on each 5.000 km??

if a ciao engine runs well and is completely original it can drive for ages, just dont touch the engine if it runs!
there will be basic things that need replacements after some 1000 km, but those cost only a little 😉
