Hi,
My newly build engine won’t start and I’m out of ideas!
Setup:
Malossi MP-one
Malossi power ignition
Malossi crankashaft
Malossi DEPS 2019
Malossi PHBG 19mm (The carb is factory settings with 85, 45 262)
IWF 24 sparkplug (also tested normal B8)– I have checked for spark, and I have it and it’s blue. Maye a bit weak, but there is spark!
– Fuel is there and reaches the spark plug.
– Compression is good, not possible to turn engine with pedal without decomp press
– Piston is in the right direction, arrow pointing at exhaust port.
– No leaks from what I can tell
– Reed valve closes, no gap on the flaps
– Tested 2 new sparksplugs + 2 caps, no difference.
– Tried different places for the ignition grounding.Any ideas? 🙂
13 april 2020 om 11:50 #795542Hmm thats weird. All carb settings should be good like this. Is the choke working? Try with full choke on.
How is the gas needle mounted? When i first had this engine i mounted this needle weong – causing for trouble too.

Gele Racefrikandel13 april 2020 om 11:56 #795543Yeah I think choke is working, It’s fixed wire with no possibility to adjust the wire. Itworkes properly.
However it doesn’t make any difference with or without choke, there is no sign of fuel igniting.Gas needle? I haven’t done anything to any needle. I know there is a needle where one can change position of a C-clip, but I haven’t touched it.
Neither the pilot JET screw, it’s untouched.I’m gonna buy som “start-gas” to spray in the spark-hole, see if it ignite.
13 april 2020 om 12:03 #795545Are you shure te coils are not turnt 180 degrees? Time to tjeck your ignition timing, whit a strobe lamp?
13 april 2020 om 12:05 #795547What i mean with the needle is how its mounted in the carburator. I made the mistake once to just let it rest on top of the plate.
It needs to be stuck between the gas cilinder thing. And a circle thing with the feather on top – hope i explained it proper.

Gele Racefrikandel13 april 2020 om 12:10 #795548Well, I’m not sure because I don’t have any pictures or good memory.. However, I’m pretty confident that I monted the stator so the cable have easy access to the outlet, which would be according to the manual 🙂
Yeah, good pint. guess I’ll nedd to buy one of thoose!
13 april 2020 om 12:23 #795550@Herr Flick The “piston” with the needle goes pretty much down to the bottom, not sitting on top in the carb housing when mounted.
When I turn the handle and release it I can feel that the piston moves and releases.

13 april 2020 om 13:15 #795558I have checked the stator mounting, and it’s according to the manual.
One bolt-hole is offset, so it’s not possible to mount it the wrong direction.14 april 2020 om 10:49 #795609This looks all pretty normal – this is weird.
Where is your filter material in your air filter? Can you try to run some more, to turn it on? Choke full open – no gas open at your handle.

Gele Racefrikandel14 april 2020 om 10:53 #795611I also think a problem lies in your Malossi vario. Usualy the ‘bus’ that goes over your crank, is too long. Causes your v-belt to slip over the bus. Maybe you can check this while trying to run the engine on.

Gele Racefrikandel14 april 2020 om 11:58 #795615Trying to run the engine on?
15 april 2020 om 17:19 #795663Not tried running, just pedals on the stand.. Give about ½ turn, like a kick.
I will try running, but not today because my back hurts. The vario isn’t slipping AFAIK, but I will my eyes open on that one aswell!
15 april 2020 om 18:59 #795670So you tried to start your newly built engine (which hasn’t ran yet )with a single kick? Afaik a *new* engine does not start with a single kick from the pedals, i’ve ran down the whole street to get it to start properly or kicked at least 10 times with a proper kickstart until it ran.
Recover from your back injury and try running or bicycling while on the stand for it to start. Or ask someone who does not have a sore back to do it for you.
15 april 2020 om 21:55 #795681Try to start the engine with a Drill (more then 1000rpm).
The ignition must be mounted this way:
5 mei 2020 om 22:33 #796896I have runned with it, bicycled it, down a slope.. nothing…
The stator was installed just like the picture, there is no other way to install it. Asymetrical fittings.I have taken the engine down and will try original ignition, see if it works.
If it do, I’ll go with Pinasco flywheel instead. -
