Hi guys.
I’m John from Norway. Here is my little Vespa Bravo.

Just got some parts for it 😀

Polini Speed engine, Polini 46mm cylinder, 13/13 carburettor, DMP crank, Proma Circuit exhaust.

The Speed engine pacage was not sealed so it has been opened at JMPB. There is 3 bolts missing and there are some scratches on the inlet parts.

Edit: I see that on the pictures in the webshop, it’s supposed to be delivered with only 1 bolt, but I’m still not happy with it because of the scratches on the inlet.6 augustus 2015 om 20:29 #497016There are always 3 bolts missing 1 bolt is used for the mounting inside the frame wich is deliverd with it aswell (it is mounted at the moment). The screw is weird as fuck and like to see some detailed pic from other side aswell.
Also the scratches are weird but not going to give u that much of a problem they seem not deep at all and more like a bit of oil or something from the picture.
6 augustus 2015 om 20:35 #497017Thanks for the comments Lennaert.
I just saw then picture in the webshop, so the 1 bolt is ok.
What do you think of this setup?
Will it be ok for town use?
What speed can I expect to get?
And last, should I change the rear pulley from 100mm to a 90mm?The scratch!!!!!!
7 augustus 2015 om 05:48 #497018Hmm… maybe a smart idea to tell JMPB about the problem and show them the picture (in case it does not work properly you maybe have some sort of warranty). The screw should not be there but the mounted bolt should (also there is a little part deliverd that goes on your mounting point at the rear).
Please take a good look at the polini 46mm if the head is totally level by putting it on a glassplate and wobble it and check it. If it is not perfectly level just mount some sanding paper on the glassplate with some ductape and level the head (else you will get a leak here wich allows air to enter).
Do you have the right type of seals? I don’t see them on your picture but for the Polini 46mm i would advice a 46mm athena gasket set (paper bottem and alu top).
What air filter are you going to use? I don’t see a aftermarket one so i expect you going to modify the original one?
Start by mounting a 74 jet and from there look if you need higher or lower through testing.I think you rather change to a 80 or even 70mm pulley for this set up.
Also the rear brake pad is that the 2/3 euro one? If so throw it out its like braking with a piece of paper.
8 augustus 2015 om 18:44 #497028Thanks for the tip 😀
I will of course send the pictures of the engine to JMPB, and ask for his opinion.
I will check the Polini head like you say in the reply. There is seals included in the cylinder kit.
About the filter, Polini say in the decription that is included in the carter manual, I must drill 6 holes in the original filer, and that I need a 66 jet in the 13/13 carb.
The carb as a 66 jet installed from Dellorto.

I have a variator setup, and it has a 100mm rear disc from original.
Like this: http://www.jmpbparts.com/vespa-ciao-si/engine-parts/variomatic/schijf-100mm-vespa-voorzijde.html
I’m sure I have seen a 90mm somewhere online.I have not opened the rear wheel, I just bougth the brake pad and hope it did fit.
Is there some other brake solution I can use?And how do I screw the new exhaust to the cylinder??
Do I need some kind of spacer and a longer bolt??
There was no instuction manual with the exhaust.Did paint it with 650° laquer today as well 🙂
8 augustus 2015 om 21:18 #497029Found this picture on the forum 🙂
There must be some kind of extension nut on the lower stud bolt.
Can I order this missing part some where?
8 augustus 2015 om 21:21 #497030The picture of the filter shows a Polini filter. Most of these filters already have some ready to make holes on the back of the filter. An original filter looks a bit different. But the key thing is to open the filter up so it could breathe more. Your new engine needs more air and therefore also more fuel. I don’t think a 66 jet will be enough. It’s hard to say on paper, but i think something around 70 would be sufficiënt. You need to test this yourself.
As for your variated setup. There are indeed two types of disks available, 90 and 100mm versions.
By the looks of it. It’s most likely you bought the good kind of brake pad. Once you took your rear hub, i think you will know how to change the pad. The exhaust is simply put down over your cylinder flange and then tightened with the 10 or 11mm nut. Don’t forget the other fixations to screw on your exhaust the right way.Edit: ooh and for mounting the exhaust the way on the last photo you need sometihing like this;

I have a 5mm jet kit lying around, so I will try a bigger jet like you say.
But what does M6/M7 means?
Are there different treads at each end?
The manual says I should make 6 holes in the original or the Polini filter box.

Excellent Martino, thanks 🙂
But what does M6/M7 means?
Are there different treads at each end? This is exactly right.
m7 for screwing this on your cylinderstud and the m6 for any bolt you want to use and fixate your exhaust with.8 augustus 2015 om 22:11 #497034You are a star Martino

Can you tell what dimensions the stud bolts are?
Is it 7x110mm? I forgot to order them as well.
JMPB does not state the dimensions on them?
Should I buy the set with 4 bolts of 3×1 singel bolts?

http://www.jmpbparts.com/tapeind-m7-vespa-p-st-a-kwaliteit.htmlRegarding the air filter, maybe I should change it for a malossi one?
9 augustus 2015 om 13:55 #497037As for the dimensions of the special exhaust stud nut i’m not sure. They come in different shape and sizes.
The studs itself, it’s your choice. The set of 4 is complete with washers and nuts, but the quality a little less then the loose studs.
I’m not a big fan of the Malossi filters and personally i would go for a worked original or Polini filter. Just drill some holes in them so it could suck more air in.10 augustus 2015 om 18:53 #497039Thanks for the reply Martino.
I have sent two emails to JMPB today, but he won’t answer 😕 ????
EDIT: Got an answer from JMPB late last night
.
We have agree on a solution, so I’m happy with that 8)Anyway I did match the cylinder and engine block today.
Have put the crank in the freezer until tomorrow as well.
One question regarding the bearing kit I bougth. http://www.jmpbparts.com/lagerset-krukas-citta.html

One bearing is C3 and the other is a standard.
Anyone know which bearing goes where?10 augustus 2015 om 19:48 #497040Put the C3 at the ignition side. The ignition side needs a stronger bearing because it has to deal with more weight.
Nice setup by the way, its pretty common to adjust some things before everything fits 🙂
10 augustus 2015 om 19:49 #497041C3 goes on the bigend because there is more force on that side then on the smallend.
10 augustus 2015 om 20:39 #497042Ok, bigend is the same as flywheel side?
Found this video, and here you can see the C3 on the flywheel side.
