i pressed the crank into the case yesterday, and there is a small gap between the counter weight and the case itself. i understand there should be a little bit of a gap there, a super tiny one, but this seems too large. what says you guys?
23 januari 2008 om 19:15 #144833Did you put rings around your crank before you put the ball bearings on?

Home made engine dyno23 januari 2008 om 19:17 #144834aye, i did. they are so thin that i probably could have left them off and not noticed, though. one on each side, under each bearing.
23 januari 2008 om 19:23 #144835on a crankshaft like yours, you don’t need to use these rings…
they are already there, if you know what I mean (there is a little ring on the crankshaft itself)if it can still turn smoothly and the case is 100% closed, you are one lucky guy :p
because there are practicly 2 rings on every side now23 januari 2008 om 20:24 #144836werid! the rings came with the crankshaft, so i figured i should use them. the ring is soooo thin, like the thickness of two hairs.

RebelWhat? they dont come with the malossi crank
the come with the revisiekit right?
But it everything spins correct en the carters close i guess there is no problem?FonS: revisiekit = overhaulkit
23 januari 2008 om 20:27 #144838On a Mazzuchelli or malossi crankshaft you dont have to use the 1mm rings 🙂

Gele Racefrikandel23 januari 2008 om 20:38 #144839ok sweet. i’ll pop it back apart and remove them. thanks guys!
there will still be a bit of a gap in there, as even with both the rings stacked, they wouldn’t be half as wide as that gap. fred told me i need to put the nut on the end of the shaft and give it a couple smacks with a hammer to get it seated proper.22 februari 2008 om 15:50 #144901NO!
Do not put a nut on the end of the shart and hit it with a hammer. Sheez. Sorry but no!
On the original crankcase there are 3 area’s where you hit the small side of the crankcase oposite of the shaft. After putting the crankcase together and tightening it, the crank should turn around when you rotate the engine. Without having to pull/push on the crank. If it doesn’t do this then the bearings needs to get whacked. Avoid hitting the shaft thread at all times.
If you do want to shock the shaft then use a tube of the right size that allows you to transfer the blow straight onto the breast of the shaft just under the threaded end.
22 februari 2008 om 17:26 #144902Terrydean please dont listen to fred :pest
He rammed with a hammer on his sprocatti engine so dont take him serious , so his hole crankshaft is fu*c*ed
But its oke to center your crankshaft , you can tick a bit with a hammer so its more in the center and it runs smoother. It should run very smooth.

You can only center it from 1 side but just check if it runs very smooth its perfect , else hit with a hammer gently to make it run smoother.
22 februari 2008 om 17:41 #144904Hamers zijn voor boeren 😀
that’s what my grandpa says :P. if something doesn’t fit well or anything, there’s something wrong so don’t use a hammer couse you might f*ck your whole crankshaft up! some gentle hits doesn’t matter. so don’t go crasy and f*ck your crancshaft up 😛
22 februari 2008 om 17:59 #144905You only use it when your crankshaft isnt going to smooth.
At scooters they always use it to center the crankshaft and everyone does it so i dont see any risk in it ! if you just gently tick on it , and there is no other way to center it!
28 februari 2008 om 23:30 #144909hey guys, i got it nice and centered. the way i ended up doing it was spinning the large variator nut all the way down to the bottom of the threads, and used a small socket that fit over the shaft and firmly on the edge of the nut, and gave it a couple gentle taps. perfect!
i am not a fan of hammering on threaded rods either, but i didn’t have access to my friends press at the time, so i made use of what i had.29 februari 2008 om 11:09 #144915Is it running smooth ? then its perfect 🙂 !
