Standard pulley transmission is better for higher speed, we have a 25km/h and a 45km/h version, the latter has a 1:7 ratio.

Variators usually come with a 1:11,5 ratio, and yes, the front variator is a huge obstacle for speed(you’ll need a malossi/polini/pinasco variator).

Max. speed with standard gears and a bigger front variator is about 75. You can mount malossi sprockets which enlarge(magic spam word) your ratio to 1:9, so that you can reach higher topspeeds.

If you really like to get busy, try to fit a vario axle(rod?) to a pully axle, or like arvidw, mount a scooter transmission to your case.

Cool that you own a SI 😀 i’m a proud owner too. I like the (std) SI just cuz it looks more macho than a (std) ciao :con too bad mine is the slow version (1:11)

But anyway, on to ur question
Personally i think u can go faster with a pouly (non-variated) with a cheaper price tag :lol All u gotta do is throw in a smaller pouly with the accompanying belt and there u go, 10 to 15 mph increase in topspeed for about 10 bucks.

Of course you can go faster variated, but thats gonna cost alot. First u need the whole variator set but then you only go as fast as 30mph. In need to go faster you can either buy a Malossi or any other aftermarket(front) variator or 90mm discs (the ones behind the clutch). With this setup, if you’re lucky u can reach speeds of around 45 mph
To go faster, you’ll need Malossi gearings (1:9), speeds would be around 60/65mph
