Standard pulley transmission is better for higher speed, we have a 25km/h and a 45km/h version, the latter has a 1:7 ratio.
Variators usually come with a 1:11,5 ratio, and yes, the front variator is a huge obstacle for speed(you’ll need a malossi/polini/pinasco variator).
Max. speed with standard gears and a bigger front variator is about 75. You can mount malossi sprockets which enlarge(magic spam word) your ratio to 1:9, so that you can reach higher topspeeds.
If you really like to get busy, try to fit a vario axle(rod?) to a pully axle, or like arvidw, mount a scooter transmission to your case.
