Hi Guys
after various attempts at starting my Si after a rebuild it doesn’t want to fire up.
petrol get’s through no problem and there is spark but doesn’t show any life at all.
upon closer inspection last night i saw that i have a leaky carb bowl gasket which isn’t too much of an issue, but i also noticed that i got petrol leaking from the malossi carb manifold.
the leak appears to be coming from the bottom where the allen key bolts are, it looks like to me it’s coming from the inside of the manifold and dripping down.
would the reed block stop the moped starting if it was defective ?
it’s the only thing i can think of.
thanks guys
Giuseppe15 februari 2011 om 09:17 #148082the leaking can’t be the main problem.
it could be the ignition or too large or too small sprayer.15 februari 2011 om 09:27 #148083well the jet i got in there now is only an 80 so not big at all considering i got a 21mm carb.
you think with the leak it should still start then.
thanks
giuseppe15 februari 2011 om 09:35 #148084then it should be your ignition or the jet is too small.
15 februari 2011 om 09:46 #148080when you say ignition you mean the spark ? if it is it does spark well though.
i also tried with a much larger jet before but still nothing.
maybe i should try another carb just in case this one is a problem.thanks
Giuseppe15 februari 2011 om 09:57 #148081it sound hard that it’s the carb. but it could.
btw, how do you try to start the engine?15 februari 2011 om 10:51 #148085Hi
i have tried pedaling and push starting which is very hard as i have variomatic transmission.
if i could by the drill attachment then i could put the drill on it but i don’t know where i can get one.
thanks
giuseppe15 februari 2011 om 10:57 #148086You have the choke installed? Try to set it on full open, i think jet 80 is a bit to small.
First things first, check if it sparks at all if not try a new sparkplug.
15 februari 2011 om 10:58 #148087in the begin after i rebuild my engine i had to use a drill.
after i ajusted the ignition and carb. he started in a two meter push.15 februari 2011 om 11:19 #148088Hi Guys
the ignition is electronic so nothing to adjust there really.
yeah but you need the proper attachment to start it with the drill but i don’t have that.Hansieb
yes i have the choke installed and been using it when i start.
i did also have a 96 jet but again no sign of life.
i have a brand new spark plug but will buy another one just to try.
i just can’t understand it as almost everything is new on the bike.
i’m at a loss.
Giuseppe15 februari 2011 om 12:08 #148089what about the cdi unit, maybe he is the problem.
btw, also take a look at your wires and sparkplug cable & cap.
15 februari 2011 om 12:49 #148090Hi There
if the CDI was faulty would the plug still spark ?
cable+cap is silicone race so brand new.
you could be right the cdi could be a problem.15 februari 2011 om 12:52 #148091that depends on when and how much he sparks.
15 februari 2011 om 12:55 #148092what i’ll do is disconnect the red, white, green cables and leave the spark plug in and turn it over.
i don’t think there’s anyway of checking the cdi is there.
are these cdi’s 6v or 12v please ?
one thing i noticed also is while pedaling i turned the lights on but no life there either, so it could be a faulty cdi not making the engine start.
thanks
giuseppe15 februari 2011 om 12:59 #148093i don’t think so. if you wanna check if it’s the cdi you should try to fire up the engine with a ”new” cdi.
