Engine not idling

Hi guys,

I bought a Piaggio Ciao P a few years ago. It had on it a sha 12.12 with 42 jet. The problem is that this engine don’t want to idle correctly and it’s really annoying. I set the ignition points to 0.4 mm as in the service manual, the spark plug is new, it’s a bosch super with 0.6 mm gap measured by me. I serviced the engine (complete disassembly) and everything was fine. Any ideas how to fix this shit?

Maybe a wrong jet or some false air.

Yes indeed.
Try the main jet.
The jet database says 48

But maybe your Ciao had an other set-up.

P.s. “snor” in de database = 25km/u moped and
“brom” in de database = 40km/u moped.

you already have the moped some years you say.
But has it never idled properly?
Or have you ever changed anything about the set-up?

Yeah, actually when iI got the moped it won t start, it was the flywheel. Then since I repaired it the enigne was running really nice at speed but it never idled properly.

The setup: brom crank and carter, oringinal piaggio cylinder with aftermarket piston and piston rings
That’s all I can tell you. But even if the jet was too small I think the moped was supposed to idle, am I right?
