    Hr. Jørgensen

      Hello from Denmark 🙂

I have an old ciao which been runnign for years. Decided to restore it, blast the frame and powdercoat it, basically restore it to it’s original state 🙂

When restoring the moped, I want to restore and modify a spare engine which I have. I have drilled and modified the intake in the crank and thats all.
I am not going for much more speed than the original as it is used mainly for riding around for fun. But I would like a bit more power/accelleration. So my question is if this setup will work:

      Dell’orto 13/13
      Polini Airfilter
      Topracing Race crankshaft
      DR 50cc 38,2mm
      Stock chrome exhaust

If you have any ideas, or better solutions please let me know 🙂

DR 50cc is a good choice!

I would not use a Top Racing crankshaft, they tend to break often, you’d better use a tuned original crankshaft.

The stock chrome exhaust is not good for on this setup, i would rather use the Giannelli Citypower, this exhaust has a stock look with decent performance.

For the rest, the setup looks fine with the 13mm and the Polini airfilter.

        Greetings!

Thanks for the reply. Well I have read and read about modifying the stock crank here on this site, but I just just don’t understand how. I get that I need to grind of a bit to alter the inlet timing, but I have no idea how much to grind off and where:con

Do you think that the Topracing Race is that bad? Since I’m only gonna run a farely low output cylinder? Alternatively I could just use the stock crankshaft again, but I really would like to refurbish the entire engine 🙂

Regarding the exhaust, I really like it. My vespa is one from the early 70’s and I would like to keep the look if you understand 😉

Using a modified crank or a race crank won’t do a lot for torque or speed if you keep using the original chrome exhaust.
If you realy want to keep this exhaust I recommend to use an original ‘brom’ crank instead of a ‘snor’ crank.
Here you can see the difference between the two:

It wil give you a bit more overall performance.

            Good luck:thumb

Okay, well must see if I can find a ”brom” crank then. What if I can’t find one, what could I do then? The link does’nt help me, too confusing since it’s all in dutch 🙂

Alternatively I will just have to go with my modified inlet (13mm), 13/13 Dell’orto + Polini filter, 50cc DR and stock exhaust.

Is there anyway to improve the stock exhaust?

Maybe you can weld a pipe with a bigger diameter to the exhaust but you will lose the chrome look on the pipe.
If you scroll a bit down and look at the pictures of the cranks in the link, you can see the word ‘snorkrukas’ above the upper picture and ‘bromkrukas’ above the lower picture.
So you can see the difference between the two cranks.
The brom crank opens and closes later than the snor. (correct me if I’m wrong)

you need a gianelli city power, that is like a stock pipe with the performanse of a expansion pipe
and it provides a lot of low-end torque

my engine produces the most power @6000 rpm (give or take a few rpm)
and wil stop @ about 7400 rpm (65km/h) with my vario setup

                  so you need
                  50 dr
stoch piaggio crank “brom“ (the 45km/h version)
                  13 13 ofcourse
                  and gianelly city powe

top speed wil be around 55/60 with 80mm pully on the back
size of jet wil be around 54/58

@javad it opens and closes sooner i believe

                    Thanks for the replies 🙂

I think i will go with:

Stock crank (mine is a brom type, here in Denmark it’s a 30km/h speed limit, don’t know if there ever where 45km/h Ciao’s here in Denmark.
                    DR 50cc
                    13/13 Dellorto
Stock exhaust (really want to keep it looking original and vintage)
                    Polini Airfilter

Will let you know how it works out 🙂
