Hi, for my Oldtimer I like to use an original variator.

Now I find two different versions of original variators, one with 5 rolls and one with 8 rolls.

The weight of the rolls is about 8,5gr each, in both version variator. Means the total roll weight in the 8 roll version is 68gr and in the 5 roll version it is 42,5gr.

I assume, that one version is for brom and one for snor type of moped.

Could somebody explain the difference of both type variators?

EDIT: And what is the difference to the Polini Utha variator (JMPB link)?

I once bought an original Italian Ciao with Variomatic and that one had the 5 rolls. It also had 90mm discs and the most rare type clutch and a 11.5 to 1 transmission.
This ran just about 45 to 50 km/u.

Further i have no clue why there are these different types…

I came, I saw, and I forgot what I was doing...
