:: Correct variated Ciao belt
-
Hey guys I How is it going? We here in the US have been having problems with the belts we get for variated Ciaos. It seems that most all of the variated Vespa Mopeds that were imported in to the US have 90mm pullys on the rear clutch. Apparently most of the variated vespa mopeds in Europe have 100mm rear pullys. That means that the the standard and performance belts that get imported to the US from Europe are a little too long and we all have loose belts and slippage issues when we try to start our variated ciaos. We are all very sad.
My question is, if you were going to your local auto parts store or other place to buy the correct belt for your variated vespa ciao with a 100mm pully, what is the part number for the correct belt. What is the belt type, width, length, and thickness. How much shorter do you think the belt should be for a 90mm pully? Can you give me the part number and specks for that belt too? I’m thinking that if I had that information I might be able to find a supplier for the correct metric belt here in the US. If you can help me, all of the variated ciao owners in America will love you!
Thanks
Tyson

vespa ciao with 100mm discs is 13×975
vespa ciao with 90mm discs is 13×950
Awsome! Thanks guys. What type of v-belt is it and do you know the thickness?

the thickness is 13mm en the length is 975 cm…
that explain´s the size name “13×975” 😉
I think the 13mm is the width. I found a couple places that have 13mm x 950mm belts that are 10mm thick. I’m going to order a couple and I’ll let you know how they work. I think they will work. The Malossi performance belts for 100mm pulleys are 6.5mm thick. Thanks for all of your help!!

i got around the baggy-belt problem by elongating the engine mount slots in my frame. i find a quarter inch is enough to pull the belt tight.
also, my malossi variator always slipped belts, unless the belt was brand new. my polini variator never slips, even with a thrashed belt!
polini finally got something right with the vespas!
