      My carter/crankcase (from a Super Bravo) has been damaged by the flywheel – look at the pics to see how.

      Why did this happen? I have seen the same kind of wear on a friend’s carter. Could it affect performance or be a problem somehow (I am thinking of using this on a future Ciao build)?

        doesn’t affect much no holes or crack as far as i can see.

        problem possible lies whit the mounting of the engine, for example the case was not closed enough so the crankshaft was a bit shorter and so the flywheel became closer to the case and made some marks.

        don’t know if it is possible but you could try to put the small “washer” which is being used in cp carters ( the other kind ) between the case and flywheel. prehaps this solves it a bit.

          No, there are no holes or cracks – I am just afraid that the flywheel will somehow keep grinding the carter down and that it will not run smooth.

            This isn’t damaged, this is standard drilled by Piaggio. The flywheel did never hit your carter.
            Nothing to be worried about.

              Interesting, again – because I have two other carters (both cp carters), and only one has tiny marks looking a bit like those on this carter, and the other doesn’t have them at all. So only some carters are factory drilled/grinded like this?

                How does the flywheel look on the side towards the crankcase? Does it seem scarred or jammed?

                I guess that the Piaggio factory had a number of moulds to cast those carters in and some of
                them may be a little bit out of shape causing some of them to be too big needing the machining.

                  It was like that when I bought it. The flywheel looks ok, I guess, even though it is a little worn (it’s the one to the right):
