Hi all I followed iamcrkt from moped army. I live just outside of Boston mass. I have been hard into mopeds for about 7 years first with puch and now vespas. I have a Ciao, Grande, Si and am working on a race Ciao.
18 februari 2013 om 20:24 #145717Then its time for you to open a perso here as well because i am very curious and i think im not the only one 🙂
18 februari 2013 om 20:31 #145710nice to see Americans on here! I’m curious how you get the parts you need, is there a shop nearby where u can get it, or do you ship it from abroad? We have loads of moped shops in Holland, and still some things isn’t for sale here.
18 februari 2013 om 20:36 #145709I mostly get my parts from treatland or 1977mopeds but lately i have been sourcing parts from Italy for vespa… or just privately from people on mopedarmy. You guys are much nicer here 🙂
18 februari 2013 om 20:39 #145706Haha Dutch hospitality
, how are the prices of the parts over there? Is it affortable or super expensive?18 februari 2013 om 20:45 #145707well… if you are in an “official” mopedarmy “gang” then there is a members only buy/sell which has much cheaper prices, or if you are lucky enough to have a dealer account with treats or 1977mopeds (then you get a nice discount)… but I think in general the prices are not that expensive… maybe for a few parts?
the vespa malossi gears are $175
polini variator is $110
malossi 47mm DEPS cylinder kit is $297 (ouch!)
a stock used vespa CDI on treats is $200!so yes a few prices are a little too high in my opinion but that is because some of these parts never really made it over to the US i’m assuming? you guys probably all have CDI bikes am I right? I have a simo CDI and it was very hard to find but I did not have to pay much for it, I got lucky! I paid $75 for it.
18 februari 2013 om 20:54 #145708I can be wrong, but the 47mm DEPS isn’t for sale here in Holland, maybe in Germany, but i’m not sure! $297 is 222 euro’s so that’s a fair price, and the polini variator is almost same price as here, so prices aren’t too bad

But the CDI is very expensive, WOW, i’ll never pay almost 150 euro’s for that:D At max i’ll pay 40 euro’s for a CDI.
I think you are right about the parts issue, The USA is a long way from Italy.
And yeah we have loads of CDI engines haha!

18 februari 2013 om 21:39 #145193Prices are the same with some fluctuations that are almost impressive when looking at pricing. Also treatland looks like a nice shop who have also some items you can not buy over here in Europe. For instance the black and chrome versions of the Simonini Calibrata.
you guys probably all have CDI bikes am I right?
No, not me and also a lot more people still prefer the ignition point type carters. Lighter flywheel for instance.18 februari 2013 om 22:24 #145722I’ve been using ebay, Treatland and 1977 mopeds for most of my parts. I have bought from mo-parts, over here Vespas are the on the more expensive side in comparison to other mopeds. Shipping for me worst part and that goes for everybody that doesn’t have a shop in their town. A bunch of my buddies, our “gang” is called the Uglies, just started a shop called Lucky Two Strokes or http://www.lucky2strokes.com
19 februari 2013 om 08:08 #145731I’ll be sure to pack a suitcase full of CDI’s when I fly over then 😉
