      Hi there,
I recently bought a 46mm Pinasco for my Ciao Porter.
Since I don’t have the machines to enlarge the engine body, I want to buy a Polini Speed Engine.
Which is the best crankshaft for 46mm Pinasco with Speed Engine ?
      Greetings
      Till

Hi I think that a standaard crankschaft will do fine in a speed engine.
a sandaard crankschaft is srtong and on a porter you want pullingpower. wiht race crankschafts you get power at high rpm,s

There are people on this forum who have a “mallossiefrees”and can enlage a standaard engine body for you.

        I know leannart has one.

Should I mount a new piston rod to my crankshaft ?
Isn’t it bad to use a crankshaft from an old engine ?

If the thread, the bearing seats, and the flat patch is still good then it’s no problem.

I would assemble a new piston pin and needle bearing.

If it is not included whit the PINASCO cylinder; Order one for a 46mm piston.
A standard piston pin is too short.

I’ll still go for a second hand used Piaggio crank. These have the best quality. Furthermore there are some differences with timimgs on other brands/racecranks, but you can always tune your timings. My opinion is, even a standard bromcrank will do fine in a SE or worked Piaggio carters.

The only good quality aftermarket cranks are from Malossi, but these are hard to find and have a rather big inlet timimg.

Since I’m more into Zündapp mopeds I have one question.
When you restore an old Zündapp engine, you would never use a used crankshaft.
You either buy a new one, or you find someone that mounts a new piston rod with new bearings.
Why is it okay to use an old crankshaft at Ciao engines ?
Isn’t it dangerous for the engine, because the material is very old ?
Or is the original crankshaft oversized, so that it will last the next 100 years ?
                  Greetings
                  Till
