Hello, i am converting monodrive into vario in my Piaggio Si Mix. I was wondering what gearing would be best for this setup:
– 50cc standard
– 12/12 carb, jest 50-52
– malossi or polini air filter
– malossi or polini vario
– standard rear coupling
– sito + or giannelli original power exhaustWould malossi 9:1 gearing be ok for this setup? Or should i use 10.5:1 or 10.7:1? I would like to have a good acceleration and top speed around 50 km/h.
2 juni 2022 om 13:22 #81559810.5 i think that the 9.1 is to heavy
3 juni 2022 om 13:10 #815610If you are looking for the best acceleration, take the lightest gearing. In this case the 10.7.
I agree with above, a gearing of 9 is too heavy for a standard engine
No replacement for displacement3 juni 2022 om 23:01 #815619Ok, what exactly does “too hard” mean? What would happen if i use 9:1 anyway in this setup? I would not accelerate good or reach as high top speed as with 10.7:1?
4 juni 2022 om 11:29 #815626If you not have the variated transmission with particularly gearing yet, i would go for an even shorter gearing of around 1:11,5. Indeed a long gearing like 1:9 would be harder to get going. Slower acceleration and for a setup like yours not able to get to its top-speed.
4 juni 2022 om 11:54 #815627Okok, i get it now. I have a spare 10.7:1 gearing for this moped. I just read a lot of good opinions about Malossi 9:1 and was wondering if it would be ok for my setup. So 9:1 is only ok with a bigger cylinder? So top speed and acceleration with shorter gearing 11,5:1 will be lower than in 10,7:1?
5 juni 2022 om 21:46 #815648No, the shorter the gearing the better the acceleration. The longer the gearing and you can get a higher top speed, but your setup should be powerful enough.
6 juni 2022 om 22:17 #815671Ok, and how about a setup with 13mm inlet, 13.13 carb, bigger jet, giannelli original power and a standard 50cc? Would that be enough for 9:1 or do i have to get a bigger cylinder?
7 juni 2022 om 01:17 #815673I don’t think that your 1:9 fascination is justified. It fits better on a citta, which has smaller wheels. The story you heard was probbely on a citta anyway. On a Si it’s just not the right choice.
7 juni 2022 om 21:11 #815693I would only try a 9:1 on a citta… Or maybe other models only with a seriously powerfull engine.
Like a 46mm Polini on a Speedengine or better
