so, after the 11 Steden Tour my Junior is infected by the tour virus. 😀
We started now to build a nice low budget tour engine for next year.
An old defect inlet carter half, a Simo side inlet carter half and a used Polini 46mm

Put everything together on my milling machine to enlarge the cylinder seat diameter of inlet carter half

here you can see the Simo quality. There is a missmatch of 0,35mm at the cylinder feet gasket surface. This need to be milled also.

AnoniemNice idea to help Junior. I hope to see you and your ciao’s at a meeting/tour! And you say it, it’s the virus!
Edit:
Jarco’s right! This is not a simple engine, for me, i don’t know for other people, but a side-inlet is very cool looking!
26 september 2010 om 17:43 #464587low budget tour engine ?
I can tell this its gonna be an engine manny people dream of. 😀
Looks nice b.t.w.
26 september 2010 om 17:59 #464588so far we only bought the 16er carb.

the cylinder set on an SE wich I bought for 70,- Euros and the Simo parts were dealed with other parts. Total amount so far less than 100,- I would say.
I would say that is low budget.:D

Waarom?looks good
.I’m very curious about the final result26 september 2010 om 19:45 #454597hope it will run, maybe you will see it in my son’s Ciao on the next tour
27 september 2010 om 10:51 #464593Definitely not a low budget engine of it’s own. So now the virus spreads in the genes also?
I think Piet junior will be very satisfied with the end results of this engine.
Hope to see the both of you on the next tour?
27 september 2010 om 10:58 #464594To make it just that little more confusing: Lets name piet junior “Ralph” :lol;)
Nice work Ralph, you’re taking modification of the vespa engine to a whole new level with your milling machine

Its one of the only viruses that,s be nice to have:D27 september 2010 om 15:00 #464599
.-{2F4OV}-.Hey Ralph!
So you have an original simo side inlet and it still has to be modified??
Cause I bought some side inlets without the S on the carter. They were sold as Simonini side inlets, but they have to be modified as well.

i heard that the side inlets without the S had a poor quality and had to be modified..
Now it looks like even the original pure S side inlet has to modified..Also i think that the finishing isn’t that good at Simonini.. Like the ports on the 3p 90cc cilinder, there it looks like the ports aren’t well rounded, and a bit crackling..
this will be a very nice ciao i think ;D
27 september 2010 om 16:42 #464603As for the 48mm cilinder of Simonini it’s true they all had a bad finish, but the 43mm version on the other hand is almost perfect. Also mine Simonini side inlets(oned with the S) are with a great finish. Only one of the holes for fixxing the membrame could be to far drilled down into the carter.
This mismatch in halves can be just as easy to point out to the original half. Did you tried another inlet half to test this?28 september 2010 om 21:19 #464631looks like a very nice project!! good luck with it :):)
30 september 2010 om 12:23 #464648Arvid, the milling machine is a very nice toy 😀
Sil, so far the quali of the Simo klein carter is ok. Only the cylinder gasket surface was 0,3mm below the gasket surface of the groote carter.
But I milled the gasket surface in one fixing and now it is perfect. 😉kijk je

Also milled the cylinder seat to diameter of 51,5mm for the 46mm Polini

Big Polini fits.

But there is a part of the lower cylinder end what is in the way of of side inlet. :'(
I think this need to grind away to give a better flow of the gas.
