:: Cilinder kit cleaning before fitting
-
Hi Guys
Hope you all had a good new year.
I need to install my cilinder kit in the next couple of weeks, and i haven’t done any of this for years.
I know i need to put the piston, rings, cilinder, head etc in petrol for a soak, but do i need to use a brush also for cleaning.
It’ all brand new kit of course.
thanks all for your advise.
Giuseppe
I myself wil take a fingertip or two of 2-stroke synthetic oil and spread it out over your cylinderwall inside and all of the pistonparts. This will get you started, but keep in mind at the first start your moped will smoke some more.
Hi Martino
yes i can appreciate that all parts need to be coated with oil to ensure it doesn’t seize.
would it be necessary to clean the parts before fitting with a brush and some petrol ?
thanks
giuseppe
With all work on the engines it is nice to work as clean as possible. Even with a new cylinderkit it would be wise to clean your parts, since it can contain some residue or like Pinasco cast iron cylinders have an oily substance to protect from wearing. It is certainly not bad to do some cleaning beforehand.

No. Putting on the oil is enough. You don’t need to clean it with a brush. A brush could also create scratches, you don’t want that.
excellent guys.
thank you for all your help and advise, i know the direction to take now.
cheers
giuseppe
