          Hello,

I’m pretty sure you’re the first british member, we have some americans though.

Let your tank rest a night with a few litres of cola, rinse and try again. Then rinse thoroughly with petrol and hopefully no more rust will come out, good luck.

I’m not sure if the coke will eat up the ‘rubberfied’ petrol as well, otherwise you could bathe your carburettor in coke as well, since it’s probably dirty as well(unless it was clean before stalling).

Let me know if it helped.

            Hello,

Nice that you found, http://www.vespa-ciao.nl 😛
Jmpb has so many items, so just check carefully what you need and then order the parts at jmpb.nl

Just clean everything and your ciao will run again i think.

                Hello,

you said the ciao was in the garage for 16 years,so the engine hasn’t been started all that time i presume?
Maybe you have to refurbish the engine, take it apart and put in new crankshaft ballbearings i guess that’s the problem
                it turns so heavy.
And the starter chain could be rusted shut so that it won’t turn easily.

hey, i was told it was started 6 months ago. it was ok the pedal when the spark plug was out which i knows does make it easier but it should not be this hard to the point the belt slips round??? maybe you are right but i was trying to avoid an engine rebuild 🙁

                  also 🙂
                  1. i cant seem to add picture.
                  2. where do all you guys get them cool alloys wheels mins still has the original spoked wheels.

hey richardson, sounds like your belt might be a little loose. loosen up the bolts holding in the motor, and slide it forward as far as you can. there should be a little lever on one of the bolts to aid in this, but i’ve never had much luck getting that thing to work well. i usually just pitch it.
ciao’s are rad, i think you’re going to love it once you get it going!

Do you use the button on the left side of your steering? This is the decompressor, you have to push it in when you pedal because if you don’t the engine is turning very heavy.

hi thanks for all your help i have found out what it was . . . . the piston was seized ????? i have freed it now and need to rebuild the engine 🙂 i have looked on JMPB.nl but i cant seem to find what i need all i want is the piston and barrel but i cant find that combo. do you thinks its wise for me to maybe upgrade piston size if i have to replace it anyway???

You could hone your barrel to 38,6 and get the oversized piston(which isn’t in the webshop, but should be possible to find or to order at some cycle shop?)

If your barrel looks good measure the piston(38,2 or 38,4mm are stock sizes), and just replace that.

                            Here’s a complete cylinder kit: http://jmpb.nl/shop/view_product.php?product=VE3077

Note that this is (chinese)aftermarket stuff, not as reliable as original piaggio(which is why i suggested honing).

You could also upgrade to let’s say….43mm:lol For that little extra power.
