My brakes, rear and front, have been getting worse and worse so I did a complete overhaul.
I cleaned everything, changed brake shoes, fittings, cables, etc. and adjusted everything but there was no improvement at all?

Looking at the rear brake lever going into the hub it has to move a lot before there is any brake effect.
Up front it doesn’t have to move that far but the brake effect is still really poor.

Can the brake surfaces inside the hubs wear down?
Anything else that could wear out?

Did you also clean the inside of your brake hubs, i.e. your braking surfaces?

Do you have cable adjusters on your brake levers? If so, can you tighten them a bit more?

Yes, I sanded that braking surfaces lightly and then cleaned them.

The adjusters are set so that the brake shoes make contact almost at once, the problem is just that they don’t give enough friction no matter how hard I press…

The brakepower of a Ciao isn’t very good at al. You say the rearbrakelever must move a lot, then you can tight the cable more so the brakeshoe is almost at the drumsurface, but the wheel must run free. Did you degrease the drums very good. And do not touch the shoes with greasy hands! New brakes must run in for a while, so after a week or two you must have max brakepower. And ofcourse the brakes of a Ciao are made for max 50km/h:)

I’ve already tightened the cable as much as possible, any more and the wheel won’t be able to run freely.

The brakes has benn getting worse and worse the last couple of weeks and now they are simply dangerous…. I degreased very carefully but I guess my only option is to open the hubs again and check.

Might be a dumb question, but what did you use to degrease the parts with?

Is it possible that there is any oil from the rearwheelgear in the rear brakedrum because of a leaking there?

here you go, use this to make your hub clean and flush

or you gotta use a bit of sand paper and something that wil follow the radius of you hub

De budget beun tjoener: geen geld is te duur of het werkt nog niet
