      Hello!

      Do you guys mount a new cilinder right of the box (bolt and go) or should I do some preparation work like fine sanding with fine sand paper on the sharp port edges of the cilinder?? I’ve just bought a new OLYMPIA 43 kit with head.

      I also would like to know if there is any problems with big compression ratio (with new cilinder43) which can lead to overheating- seizing of the cilinder/piston.

        Yes, you put the bottom gasket from the cilinder in the ride way on your carter and you draw the tranfers on your carter.
        then you file, dremel the ride transfers in your carters.

          As shown on the picture above, removing a lot of aluminium over there will cause a hole. So really watch out while cutting there. I do not recommend to cut too deep.

            Hello,

            My question wasn’t about the case matching (cilinder to crankase) but i just want to know if there is necessary any work on cilinder ports in the core of the cylinder( grind sharp edges etc.), preparation work or I can just mount the new cylinder kit.

            What about the increased compression ratio and possible overheating ??:?

              Ruby there is no need to grind the edges just turn the crank by hand the first time.
              Asfar overheating i cant tell you because i never had that issiue.
              Runs very well just like an 65DR 😉

                Aaah you mean rounding up sharp edges of the porting of a 2-stroke cylinder for better piston springs conductivity and flow.
                For normal daily engine use not necessary but for a tip-tip tuned race engine with 10.000 RPM or more then you do this port rounding.
                You are free to do this offcoure but for our low refs Vespa engine,s not really necessary.(Tops 8500-9000RPM)

                Overheating from increased compression Is again not really a issue with low refs vespa Engine’s.

                If a Vespe engine gets to hot than the jet of the Carb, is to small or the cooling system is not working well.

                  it is always good to grind the ports a bit, the majority of vespa cilinder are badly made, and could use some tlc
                  when you run the engine the first time it is very importand that you give it the time to heat up.
                  this wil give jou a good break-in of the cilinder.

                  let it warm up a bit wile running on idle or 1/5 throttle. you break-in period will be around 2 hours
                  and keep in mind that your engine is very fragile, don`t floor it when it is stil cold.
                  the compression depends a bit how you break it in.

                  i did a test once with a reconditioned 50cc cilinder and new piston, full throttle with new cilinder is kill
                  so i now days i drive like a granny wile its cold, and never go byond 5000 rpm on a variomatic (20-25 km/h)

                    Ritze, what you excatly mean with this “don`t floor it when it is stil cold”. So you think that there is no need to be afraid for overheating because of increased compression with new 43 kit?:con

                      overheating is not because of hi compression but when jou mount a small jett

                      your gas air mixture should be a bit rich, then it can run for many miles
