I have used the zoek function but could not find something about how to bewerk an standard block to use a Simo kruk and 48mm cyli. 😕
I know that the Simo kruk has a longer slag. Is the diameter of the kruk wangen olso larger than from a standard kruk?
21 oktober 2010 om 11:47 #145882Hi Piet ,
a Simonini krukas is much bigger than the original piece .
I have 1 at home , if you like i could measure it’s diameterTo fit the cilinder you have to drill the original carters
to the max and there is no more room foor the extra ports .21 oktober 2010 om 11:50 #145883maybe you can ask ask virgil? he managed to put a 48 simo on his speed engine!
21 oktober 2010 om 12:00 #145884I’m not sure, But ik thought that ArvidW had adjusted a standard carter for a simonini crankshaft for his Dr engine with side inlet, look at his perso.
And i thought that virgil adjusted a speedengine for a simonini cilinder, but i have never seen a standard carter with simonini cilinder.21 oktober 2010 om 12:10 #145885Piet30 :

Home made engine dyno21 oktober 2010 om 12:13 #145886First of all, there are a lot different Simonini crankshafts. In different strokes, 43mm, 44mm and 46mm. Make sure wich one you use?
Furthermore the conrods are in different thicknesses so you have to take in mind this could be a problem with the inner case of your crankcase. Maybe you have to remove some flesh there. Also keep in mind you have to mill down your crankcase because of the bigger diameter kruk wangen.Edit: I thought to put the cilinder on the carters was already done in your case?
21 oktober 2010 om 12:56 #145887thanks for the infos.

Yes making a larger bore in the crank case for the cyli is no problem for me as I have a milling machine with the right equipment 😀
look you here

I think for the older 48mm cyli (3 fixing pins) I need a kruk with 46mm stroke, right?
So if you say that also the kruk wangen diameter is 4mm larger than from a standard kruk I have to mill also the crank case by 2mm bigger radius. That might make big fun. 😉
Does someboddy know where I still can get a older kruk with 46mm stroke? I think this is different to the 07 Simo kruk, right?
21 oktober 2010 om 13:04 #145889I drive with a orginal vespa 50cc piaggio kruk on my 48mm simo block and this works fine

But it depend on what type of 48mm simo your have, because there are 48mm kits with a normal 43mm stroke but also 48mm kits with a 46mm stroke.21 oktober 2010 om 13:15 #145890ui, is that so?
How can I see the different if a 48mm cyli need a 43mm or 46mm stroke?
Now it starts to become complicated. I thought there is a hook somewhere.
21 oktober 2010 om 14:36 #145893Normally i would look at the exhaustport height. Is the bottom of this port somewhere like 46mm. You could say the cylinder is normally for 46mm stroke. The problem is, al of mine Simonini 48mm cylinders even 43mm stroke have a measure of 46mm or more. So this is not a handy way to find out.
Therefor i personally shall mount the cilinder on a crankcase and look if the piston crown don’t exceed your cylinder.
PS. I think there are a lot different Portlayouts for this Simonini cylinder. Just have a look at “Grote poortmap topic”.
