:: malossi gears, what gear oil do you run?
-
right now i am running valvoline sae 85w-140 gear oil. i took the bike for a ride and i noticed my tranny case was really hot.. hot enough to boil my spit. it might have something to do with the inner nut on my rear variator pulley backing off (i sheared the lock washer) and dragging on the case, you can see where the case took a little damage.. but i don’t see how the entire tranny casing could get that hot from that..
i’m afraid of blowing up another set of malossi gears! 🙁

The gears run smoothly? I’d think the friction would cause the heat.
I have a dutch oil for scooters, not sure what the numbers are.
you must have 80w-90 oil 😉
the gears are perfectly smooth running. i already blew up one set of malossi gears, so i took care to be sure that they ran smoothly this time. 80w-90 for sure? i will replace my current oil before i run them again, i do not want to have to buy another set of these gears..
