Hello!
I’m writing from Poland…
I’ve got some question about change setup in my Ciao.
I haven’t vario in my piaggio I’ve got only koppeling and I wanna install variator and koppeling but I’m afraid that rear axis (gear axis) is too short…
Maybe somebody installed vario and has similar problem ?
I haven’t vario (I think about Malossi/Polini-which is better) and what I must change also in my Piaggio when I want to install vario+koppeling?
Greetings form Poland !

10 augustus 2008 om 12:27 #145051Hi, welcome!
You need a special gearcasing with a longer axle!
The best thing is to find a complete set, and then buy a polini or malossi variator.
17 augustus 2008 om 06:16 #145052Yes, You have a right.
I bought second Ciao with koppeling, which has longer axle and variator.
That was cheaper option, because I payed 100 Euro for this one Ciao.

Thanks for help.17 augustus 2008 om 08:22 #145053Wow Poland, I’ve been there a few time with my truck. Nice girls you have back there 😉 I was in Wloclawek in the directon of Gdansk. Nice environment but hell, what a bad roads 😛
Welcome on this forum

If I where you, I would buy the Polini vario because I got theme both and the Malossi is a No Go.
The Malossi was to wide where the belt comes so that starting your moped will be a bitch because of the slipping belt.Polini is way better for mopeds with an high compression and it’s Polini quality. Always good 😛
Edit: This is my Malossi Variokit. When you look closely, you can see the long axel in the casing.
It’s a special casing for the long axels. The part on the right is a stock vario.
17 augustus 2008 om 12:26 #145054why should you buy a expensive polini vario, when the much cheaper malossi does the same on his setup?
17 augustus 2008 om 17:55 #145055Because I got problems starting any engine with the Malossi vario and the Polini vario doesn’t give me any problem. Even on the Simonini without decompression it will start great. Well I can tell that the Malossi vario that I own was letting the belt slip on every engine.
And, yes, I know that you can modified that but Polini does it beter for me. That’s my opinion 😉17 augustus 2008 om 18:02 #145056i don’t experience any slipping, and i have a good 70cc setup.
starting is not hard, just use the decompression.i still think its not worth the money.
you get the yellow spring with the malossi, otherwise u have to buy that to if you want a stronger setup.
the standard rollers u get are almost everytime unusefull.17 augustus 2008 om 19:26 #145057I think you should buy a origional vario-set first.
With a origional setup will it work to, i have it on my ciao and it drives nice. If you realy want speed, you can better chouse the polini vario. It is the best one.
23 augustus 2009 om 23:14 #145179i’ve used both the malossi variator (lots of belt slip and hard to start) and the polini. i also prefer the polini. i stripped out the inner shaft that the outer variator cheek slides on due to the massive torque my motor makes, the polini one is harder. that’s the big reason i like the polini better.. and that it starts easier.
