In another thread I got the comment that the coils in my engine was of the old type that uses the heavy flywheel

But these coils use the flywheel with 21 mm outer wall thickness, I also have a flywheel with 25 mm outer whell thickness that is heavier.

How many combinations of flywheel/coils are there and what are the differences?

The coils from the photo on top are old-timer coils. These don’t go with one of the newer type flywheels show on the bottom photo. You can recognise an old-timer flywheel by it’s smaller hole for the rubber.

Have a look in the link/post from Fons for a detailed photo of the flywheel; http://www.vespa-ciao.nl/forums.php?m=posts&p=198043#198043

Strange, I run the old-timer coils with the 991790 flywheel to the right in the bottom picture and it works fine?

The 990955 flywheel to the left does not work with the old-timer coil or the “green” coils in the bottom picture due to the larger outer wall thickness, it has to use the smaller coils in the bottom picture.

I probably have an old-timer flywhell as well.
